Media Center Makeover

In an effort to serve our students and teachers better, we are giving our media center a makeover!

A year and half ago we “genre-ized” our fiction section: we reorganized so that our fiction books are by genre — historical fiction, mystery, fantasy / scifi, realistic fiction. Students have found that browsing in a section helps them find more titles in a genre that they like and they are more likely to checkout those books.

Now we are looking at including reference and nonfiction in our makeover. We are starting to shelve our reference books in with our regular nonfiction books. We hope this will help our students find and use more print resources when they are completing research projects. Our reference section, per se, was not getting much attention, and there are some really great resources there. By shelving them with the regular nonfiction, we hope students will find and use some of these great reference titles!

Stop in and see our progress and tell us what you think!

  1. I love that idea. This will probably increase the nonfiction circulation since the books will be more visible in the sections where the students hang out. I’m looking forward to the change:-)
